Welcome to the website of St. Matthew, the Evangelist, Catholic Parish of Bellevue, NE

“The joys and the hopes, the griefs and the anxieties of the people of this age, especially those who are poor or in any way afflicted, these too are the joys and hopes, the griefs and anxieties of the followers of Christ.  Indeed, nothing genuinely human fails to raise an echo in their hearts.  For theirs is a community composed of human beings.  United in Christ, they are led by the Holy Spirit in their journey to the kingdom of their Father and they have welcomed the news of salvation which is meant for everyone.”

Such are the opening words of the Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World, that pivotal document of Vatican Council II which challenges all Catholics to live our faith as never before and bond together on a pilgrim journey to the Lord, contributing to and receiving from like-minded others on the Way.  As I reflect on these words, I find the reason for parish communities, why we exist and what we hope to accomplish.

St. Matthew, the Evangelist, Bellevue, NE:

  • is a young parish, being founded in 1996; it’s school however was begun in the 1960s.
  • consists of 600-or-so families, but stands ready to grow.
  • is ethnically diverse, an enriching factor to our faith.
  • has a high percentage of military families (active and retired), as our neighbor to the east is STRATCOM.
  • forms a worshiping, dedicated, challenging group of Catholic Christians who support each other.

Come join us, as together we seek to live our faith!
